As an emigrant British person in Canada, I am bemused at the touchiness exhibited by Peter H. There was no putdown intended but he seems determined to take offence at every remark which is disappointing.

Yes, the Great Lakes are amazing and huge and they were impressive to me as a new immigrant from Britain and twenty three years on they still are. All that fresh water going on for miles and miles. Its not like the the sea and its not like a British lake. Now most of the locals take them for granted and think nothing of their size, all lakes are big.

So Peter shouldn't be making assumptions about "North American" people's bragging about their lakes. They are most imrpessive to those of us who grew up with smaller bodies of water.
