I have been amused by the frequency with which mentions of London Bridge on this side of the Atlantic are accompanied by illustrations of -- Tower Bridge. This is the case in more than one nursery rhyme book published in the US, and fairly recently in a newsletter sent by a national level chain of bookstores in Canada.

It is interesting to speculate what the good citizens of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, thought they were getting when they bought, shipped over, and re-erected the stones of old London Bridge. Did they keep muttering anxiously "Why isn't it turning out like in the pictures?"
