Any acid will descale a kettle. in large scale boilers we use citric acid. Acetic acid will work but smells, you could even use Coca Cola or Pepsi, nice mixture of phosphoric acid with a bit of citric acid. But you should probably use diet as the sugar syrup makes it a bit sticky.

Just warm your acid up a bit and let it work for a while.
