Either Hugh Brogan's biography, or Christina Hardyment's
"Captain Flint's Trunk", or both, give the name of the house on which
Beckfoot is based, and contain a photograph of it. I forget the name
but I seem to remember using it to identify the house on the
1:25000 map, and then using the map to identify the house on the
ground, on a holiday there in 1990.

You can get a good view of it from a boat on Coniston. It is above the
eastern shore of the lake, towards the northern end, and does not have
a River Amazon running past it. It is no longer in use as a private
house but was some sort of special school, or outward bound centre,
or something. Other contributors will doubtless correct any errors
in this and supply fuller details.
