Actually, HP's numbering systems tend to be re-entrant when they discover they're running out of numbers. Rather than try to keep it all straight from memory, I'll just refer you to The Museum of HP Calculators, and note that the HP-48S/Sx/G/GX were the last to be developed by HP's handheld unit in Corvallis, OR before upper mismanagement moved calculator operations to Australia and portable computers to who knows where. The company just hasn't been the same since.
