I've been reading a lot about AR's life lately, and from what I've read, the Swallows were more like him than the Amazons, so it would make sense that the Swallows were more the main characters. It seems like John was what Ransome wished he could have been like, and that Titty was definitly his favorite, and related most to him. I see bits of Evgenia in Nancy, but not in Ransome at all. Perhaps the reason the Amazons did not play as big a role in the books as the Amazons is because they were not like Ransome himself, so he found it harder to write about them. Of course, even if the ruthless amazon pirates did not play as big a role, they are just as exciting to read about.
