My table with é as Alt 130 came from Appendix B of a Microsoft Windows and MS-DOS 6 Users Guide which was copyright Microsoft 1993 and presumably came with my Windows 98.

It says there are six sets of 256 characters (character sets or code pages), but MS-DOS reserves characters 0 through 31 for control characters. The keys on the keyboard represent characters 32 through 126 and characters 127 through 255 are extended characters:

English (United States) is 437
Multilingual (Latin 1) is 850
Slavic (Latin 2) is 852
Portugese is 860
Canadian-French is 863
Nordic is 865

Typing “chcp” at my (MS-DOS) Command Prompt results in:
Active code page: 437

PS: what do Spanish & French-French speakers use?
