I had never heard of 'Merican "biscuits"' 'til I encountered them in Ohio. They appeared to be what I would call "scones". Of course, I cannot vouch for their authenticity or provenance of Ohioan? hotel breakfast fodder.
Here starts another thread on the etymology and distribution of popular foods? I hope someone from the Department of Comestible Geography is tracking all this.
