Good grief, John, what on earth are you using for planking stock? Nothing should be that hard, not even Red Gum! If your timber is that hard, it is probably also very dense, which will translate into a very heavy boat. A heavy boat is very stable, but a slug to row or sail. Have a re-think about the species that you are using for planking. Why aren't you using plywood? It's a whole lot easier.
