I would have thought it highly likely that Swallow and Amazon were planked in larch - that would be (and still is) the normal wood to use over here for a light dinghy, unless it was for a posh client when mahogany would be used - and that is better avoided these days to protect rain forests.

My Hebe, for instance, is planked in larch on oak timbers.
