One could set against that view a lot of quotes to the general effect that each generation of young people thinks it is the first to invent sex.


On the other hand you have the support of Philip Larkin (I quote him from mremory):

Sexual intercourse began
In 1963
Between the end of the Chatterley ban
And the Beatles' first LP.

I can think of at least one reason why sex isn't a modern phenomena, namely that "phenomena" is plural.

Be that as it may, I've said several times that I think John has a sort of crush on Nancy, connected with his admiration for her seamanship. I think it's clearest in the sequence of events leading up to the disaster of the Pike Rock, but I think it's also evident elsewhere.
