Interestingly enough the young Lady who played Titty in the movie went onto draw wildlife in Africa. Her drawings are really nice - a bit better than AR's skills in that field. Now onto the boat topic - which is slightly less interesting than Titty to a true AR freak - such as Peter and your humble scribe.

I got the second plank on the starboard side roughed out and last night I spent several hours on my knees planing off the edge of the garboard to provide a tight fit. The plank fits nicely, but I need to plane down the bow area of the garboard to get rid of a slight round. The Stanley plane is really good on the oak, but it gets dull on such hard timber.

I have been looking at better methods to keep my blades sharp (Peter H: I can hardly wait for your response to this comment). I stumbled - literally across this post on sharpening-

For example, did you know that to produce high-carbon steel, crushed bone from the skull of an infidel is an excellent carburizing agent? Me, neither. Or that hardening the steel in cutting blades is achieved by the sudden and even cooling of the blade, and that the best known way to achieve these dual goals is to quench the blade in the still-living body of an enemy warrior? Same here; I had no idea. David's been teaching me a lot.

If you want to read the rest of the scriblings of a Neanderthal woodworker and you are not fussy about the English I have posted a link to the website with the sharpening description. The English of these woodworkers is quite ... I am not sure one needs to go as far as a microscope to check the edge of the blade, each to their own I suppose.

I must give this method a try as I have been using Anne's small sharpening stone and I think I will wreck it quickly. I will try and take some pictures tonight of the boat and put them on my webiste tomorrow. The construction has some neat features to see at the moment.
