Buy Global DVD player (I got Daiwoo about $90 incl shipping from SamsStore; or about 100 players are listed at -http://www.dvdspecialty.com/ or www.shopping.com/dvd players/all region - some have "Audio decoders" which may obviate the plug-juggling)
For Region 2, you may need to juggle the audio plugs (white and red) depending on Country, Year, etc. Subtitles may be unavoidable.
I havent checked into portable **Global** DVD players wh would be just great for kids(or adults) on a long trip

As I said, be warned, Region 2 may be habit-forming; I have bought about 80 so far (av price $5-12 + shippng mostly from caiman_usa OR from findthatfilm.com (UK) where shipping is only GBP 3; I have covered almost every Brit comedian from 1935 incl Will Hay & Tommy Handley, and the older TV series, most of the War/RAF films, and all the Nathalie Baye French films, & banned-in-the-USA: Song of the South & Stepin-Fetchit. Check first if there is a US DVD of course.
[Only 1 has been partly defective, or failed to play properly-Absolute Beginners, & I kept it anyway]
I shld point out that in the 'warning message' there is sometimes buried in the fine print "Not for use outside UK", in which case you will naturally return it promptly.
It occurs to me I should put one of those "Lists" on Amazon.co.uk - "Best Region 2 DVD's for N American viewers (Adults; Kids)!" I will!
