"Puddle" - has "Uh" sound as in "THUD".
"Piddle" - the "i" has the sound of the "i" in "IT".

I would not think that THUS and THIS are pronounced the same.

I be a-reckoning thet mebbie ya'll gonna need subtitles when I git to be a-talking on thet video conference fur that big time meetin what's comming in September in Nor - Which. But mebbie I'm the one needing to see some subtitles. Shore do need 'em when I'm a-watching HARRY POTTER movies on DVD, because them chillen, they be a-talking funny...
