In the US also, delivery disappeared starting in the 1970's. It's more common to get bottled water delivered rather than milk.
In some areas, delivery is making a comeback through cultural changes. The area where I like has a high percentage of Hispanic immigrants. This means visits from people selling roasted corn on the cob, tamales, and fruit. They walk down the street ringing a bell or calling out their product. (Fresas! [strawberries] Mangos!)
