I'm pretty sure that the Ss, As and Ds would have been able to get powdered milk; I think it was around at least at the turn of the century. There certainly was condensed milk, and / or a concentrated tinned milk called 'evaporated milk'. I remember 'condensed milk' as being a sticky (delicious) very sweet substance that crawled out of the tin (lovely spread on bread!)
