In the book MASH, Hawkeye makes reference to someone is being ornery as needing their spleen removed. I wonder if this is the same reference type.
Sounds likely. The spleen was seen as the source of yellow bile, and the associated humour was choleric. Someone with an over supply of yellow-bile would be seen as violent, vengeful and short-tempered.
