The only ref I can find is in a letter to his mother dated 14 Sept 1943, where he describes char fishing from a boat on Coniston Water (he caught and ate two big ones). The letter is published in the Hugh Brogan Biography, p 401, and a fuller version in Brogan's Signalling from Mars, p 306.
