We have foxglove in Northern California as well, and they are very beautiful. They aren't natives though - I gather that foxglove is an English plant, introduced to America at some point. Apparently they have long been know for medicinal properties and grown to that end in addition to their beauty, so one would suspect that they escaped from the gardens of those who brought them over originally (or inherited seeds or plants). Now they grow wild, widely distributed, but much more welcome than Kudzu (which we don't have here, thank heavens).
