I was referring - elliptically, as Dave Thewlis says - to the occasion when Dan Quayle, visiting a school and accompanied by reporters and TV cameras, "corrected" a student's spelling of "potato" to "potatoe". Even on this side of the Pond the clip has been seen on TV several times. If you google for Quayle potatoe you'll find dozens of web pages about it. The same mis-spelling cropped up, no doubt by accident, in your post, and I was reminded of the Quayle incident.
