There are two tidal fords on the Blackwater Estuary to Osea Island and Northey Island and a long tidal road called the Broomway with a public right of way along it running along the edge of Foulness Sands. I have an old Ordanance Survey map of the Southend area showing tidal railway lines on Foulness sands, presumably these were used by the military for target practice, but these have vanished from more modern editions.
