My neighbours, who had been through the 30's and WWII -and had learned economy, always roasted their joints, then waited for them to go cold before attempting to slice the meat. Reckoned it made the meat go further, you could slice it finer cold. And of course our pasties were made so big you couldn't eat it at one sitting, you always left an end to finish at tea-time or next day. I was tought to eat mine with salad cream -still think it adds a nice touch.
... and don't forget bubble & squeak!!!
