A method I have used on the canals, with a steel boat, is to drive the bows into the dock or bank until they wedge there and can be held by the engine running slowly ahead. This gives time to walk the 70 foot length with the stern strap and moor your boat.
It is not normally good practice to leave the boat with the engine in gear but it does work if you are single handed.
I have seen someone lasso a mooring bollard on the Hamble - but this does take practice and it did not work when I attempted it.
