A revised list of mention of Rattletrap in PP & PM (pages as in the hardback editions). Mrs Blackett finds gearchanging difficult, but only one mention of a hand-crank start! Several references to petrol (ie not two-stroke petroil ie a petrol-oil mix, if that is what the Trojan used). And Rattletrap has three forward speeds, not two like the Trojan.

Rattletrap in “Pigeon Post”:
Chapter I: Roger & Titty get a lift from the station to the wharf, Mrs Blackett driving, dents mudguard. Roger & Nancy in the back. Titty in the front nearly bumps her nose on the windscreen when the car is braked suddenly because of Colonel Jolys (19-21).
Chapter VII: Mrs Blackett will take some baggage up in Rattletrap (78).
Chapter XII: Mrs Blackett visits them about the early morning arrival of Sappho (123-125).
Chapter XVII: Mrs Blackett drives to the Tysons to see the new camp (175-176).
Chapter XXXIII: Captain Flint drives Molly & Dick to the camp. Rattletrap has three forward speeds: “The gears changed, second ..., third .. ” though the Trojan has only two forward speeds (365-368).

Rattletrap in “The Picts and the Martyrs or Not Welcome At All”:
Chapter XXIII: Billy takes the GA for a drive, and she is stranded (227-228) (a picture of GA in Rattletrap on the dustcover and at the end of Chapter XXVI (266) in hb)
Chapter XXV: Billy drives Timothy & Nancy to the Swainsons and to the bottom end of the lake looking for the missing GA, Billy starts Rattletrap by hand-cranking (247-252).
