I would love to have a copy of that presentation myself, as now I find myself wondering just what DID I say...

The presentation was a joy to put together, as it gave me a wonderful chance to relive so many of the experiences that have so nurtured me, that have brought me so much pleasure throughout my life, as I have returned to the bookshelf to immerse myself once again into that marvelous world of my childhood.

Time spent on such matters is all well spent - the time to read these for those first times, the time to reread them to refresh the memories, the time to type them in word for word, and the amazing huge amount of time spent in rereading the typed texts to try to proofread and fix up the little mistakes that somehow creep into my typing. But not to complain, not hardly, for such efforts are greatly a labor of love. Or should I say "labour" of love. Ok, so they SPELL funny too...

Again, I thank you all for presenting me with this opportunity to give back a bit of the delights that Ransome has given me over these so many years.

One little side note here - I had said that I have been disappointed in not being able to find anyone on this side of the Pond that have ever heard of Ransome or the "Swallows and Amazon" series of books. It seems no one has any awareness of these at all. Then on the day of the video conference, in preparation for the actual moment, I was shown the room where I was to do my thing, and we got the camera set and aimed to my liking. I mentioned to the young lady there that was setting this up for me as to the general topic I was to discuss, and she totally surprised me by saying that she had enjoyed these books also. This has never happened to me before. And on this day of days, I actually found somebody that knew of all this, and one that had fond memories of those reading experiences. In the flurry of conversation that generated, still before "air time," she told me that she was actually a new arrival in this country, having spent her growing up years in Australia, where the literary interests are very similar to those in the UK itself. So still, this is not quite the same thing as finding a native American that has encountered and remember such an event with these books. While I realize that there are Americans, not just myself, that have come across these, and have learned to appreciate them, it is just that in my own personal paths of life, I have never actually MET any such. But meeting her, even thought she was brought up Australian, and sharing a few moments of mutual delights with All Things Ransome, was quite a surprise, and quite a jump start for the presentation itself.

It was a delightful experience, and well worth to me any effort I put into that preparation, such as it was.
