spending an hour working out how to fit two pieces of timber together is fun, asking TARBOARD how to do it is funner

I have no objection to John finding fun wherever he chooses (as long as he doesn't do it in the street and frighten the horses). Not everyone shares my fascination with pursuing the meaning of weird words.

My only request is that the title of a submission should, to a reasonable extent, reflect the content -- so I don't waste time downloading lengthy descriptions of how to glue bits of boat together, and other people don't waste their time logging on to me moaning yet again about people writing "Lake Windermere".

Incidentally, I had an email recently from a former student. She is working on an environmental project on a British Columbia lake officially called (shock, horror) "Lake Windermere" (or, sometimes, "Windermere Lake"). Toponymic incorrectness is everywhere.
