Time to emerge from all those metadiscussions and start a new thread.
Ed was superb. He told us how he first came to AR, aged seven - and therefore identified with Roger. He discussed the curiosities of our "common language", not to mention the weirdness of children drinking tea - and with milk in it. Best of all, he told us how he came to type all the books into his computer, as a way of rereading them carefully. This was particularly commented on by our outside speaker, Owen Dudley Edwards, who agreed it was the only way to do proper critical analysis. (So, Ed, you're up there with the professionals.)
And then he found he had acquired a search engine by accident, with the value to us all that we know.
We had many other little sidelights on the way. He held the audience spellbound, and a substantial proportion of our feedback named his talk as what they enjoyed best on the weekend.
Thank you, Ed.
