Emma, there haven't been any real TARS gatherings in the U.S. so far. I think the distance was
part of the factor, and how thinly spread folks were. However our Canadian colleagues have demonstrated
that this is a poor excuse for not getting together.

In fact there is a small concentration of TARS in the general Seattle area, especially since there
are several Canadian TARS in and around Vancouver, so it wouldn't be too hard for some enterprising
TARS to put together an event. Concentrations also exist in the San Francisco Bay Area (Northern California
has about a dozen within say a 300 mile diameter circle). The biggest concentration of US TARS is in
the Northeast.

There are plans afoot for a U.S. TARS gathering in Maine next summer -- Maine because of the large number
of TARS in the general area ( = volunteers!) and the lady who is spearheading the idea is from Maine.
There was also a proposal in our newsletter for an event in the Wisconsin area, which didn't receive the
same number of positive responses simply because there aren't as many members in Wisconsin.

Aside from the Maine gathering (which I hope happens!) it is just going to take somebody with an idea and
the will to put one together, ad Adam Quinan has pointed out.

When you join I'll be sending you our TARSUS new members packet which has among other things copies of
recent newsletters and a directory of TARSUS members. One of the newsletters has a map of the U.S. showing
where all the U.S. members are (via small skull-and-crossbones, what else?)

I'll look for your membership application -- feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Dave Thewlis
TARS U.S. Coordinator
