Teenage Vigilante Gang . . . is a bit broad, isn't it? After all the S&As take on the burglars and the false accuser, in SA, Black Jake in PD, a vigilante role (assuming wildlife protection laws) could be argued for Tom in CC, they were prepared to act on Squashy Hat's claim jumping in PP, and there was a very decided vigilante effort in GN, to name a few.
Perhaps what we have in Ransome is a blatant disrespect for the niceties of established governing bodies, and the "Two Gangs" title had it right!
