It doesn't happen very often that several threads come together in quite this way but how about this.

There is a connection between PG Wodehouse and AR: Ransome's last boat, Lottie Blossom, was named after the Wodehouse character who carried a reptile (an alligator I think) around in her bag. That will then lead to the question of why none of the Walkers or Callums ever figured as the names of Ransome's vessels. The only AR characters who are, are Nancy Blackett and Peter Duck.
I think that the relationship between AR and the Altounyans provides some of the clue. In naming his boats (when not using something entirely different) they are names of characters that were either entirely his own creation or where the relevant people could not claim some kind of association. Peter Duck was, of course the Ancient Mariner in Racundra, but he had undoubtedly died many years before AR named the boat. But not only was Nancy A. R.'s favourite character, she was one who was AR's own creation.
