At the Midlands AGM of TARS in 1997 Taqui gave a marvellous talk in which she said that S&A was written for the Altounyan children, but not necessarily about them. Despite this disclaimer, when it came to the questions and answers, a small girl sitting on her father's shoulders broached the question directly: "Are you John or Nancy?" Taqui replied "I don't think I'm either of them, but given the choice I would of course have preferred to be Nancy." Nevertheless, as the Brogan Letters show, after the publication of S&A she signed letters to AR "Captain John", presumably in an effort to please him.
