CG (Gordon) Nobbs sent his son David (born 1935) to Marlborough College instead of City of London School, as he thought he (David) would be in a difficult position at CofL with his father teaching there. He was so fair-minded that he gave David a little help with homework, but refused to use his expertise to give David an advantage over the other boys with extra coaching.
CG Nobbs had a 20-foot yacht “Fairy” which he sailed for a a month in August at Fambridge on the River Crouch (and took David & his cousin John sailing). He did die the year he retired (1968), from a pulmonary embolism, after speaking at a function at his school “The John Carpenter Club Dinner) at which he was the principal Guest of Honour (page 170).
