I bet they taught you that you had to fall off and swim about - "One person swims to hold the bows while the other lowers the sails" Meanwhile the boat - especially a Wayfarer - does turn turtle, and then you have a problem.

Both crew should be up on the side of the boat and the helmsman standing on the plate before the mast hits the water - in fact with luck (or skill) that shouldn't even happen. Then up she comes ond on you go, letting the water out through the self bailers.
