Peter -
First, I may not have always agreed with everything you've said (does anyone, with anyone), but the TARBoard will be a poorer place without you. You will be missed.

As to your question regarding creating a phantom identity, yes, it's possible that you could apply as "Constance Waters" AKA "Coniston", say, with a hotmail e-mail, and hold heated discussions with yourself, however if you look at the "Posted by" line on every post (when viewed individually or via "Most Recent Messages"), the IP address (Internet location of the computer from which the message was submitted) is included. It would quickly be obvious if you were batting messages back and forth by yourself if Benny Hill and Coniston were having a heated debate from the same computer. There are ways of avoiding this red flag, but they'd require you to carefully manage your postings. A "troll" (Internet-speak for a poster deliberately trying to start an argument) would sooner or later slip up and be spotted. We've located at least a half dozen attempts by one particular individual to "troll" at another board I moderate; lately we've started slamming the door as soon as he knocks, as it were.
