I do not know; it is entirely possible. For firing a small boiler like a launch boiler, one wants a coal with a low ash and volatiles content to minimise clinkering, which can be a real nuisance.

Modern power stations, espescially the very modern ones with fluidised bed combustion, can burn just about anything!
