Yes, the military crest is a great place to be. you can see and shoot the enemy and they can't get you! Tankies call it being 'hull down' so that just the turret and gun are above the sky-line, or even 'turret down' if the comander wants to keep a real low profile and just spy out the landscape from his cupola.
During the American Civil War, Genl. Bragg lost the battle of Missionary Ridge at Chatanooga, by placing his artillery along the natural crest of the ridge rather than the military ridge-line. It allowed Grant's yankies to storm up the slopes relatively unscathed.
