I once worked for a UK organisation where the CEO decided to put the managers through an Outward Bound style team building course. It was decided to start with with the top chaps and then to work down. The first course was run in real 'survival' mode in March somewhere in the mountains of Scotland. One top chap came back with his arm broken.

There was then a rethink and it was decided to run the rest of the courses on a farm north of Banbury. Instead of a wild mountain torrent we had to do with the winding meanders of the Oxford Canal. One of the most enjoyable parts of the course was when we were assigned Canadian canoes. I could never work out why for our gentle paddle down to the nearest canalside pub we were expected to wear hard hats.
