True enough, but since they are two different things, it makes a certain amount of sense to use two different words. My understanding of your remark about the French was that they had only one word for what I consider to be two very different objects.

One purpose of navigation is to avoid hitting anything at full tilt.

Or half-tilt for that matter, but then, what would be the purpose of the helmet? :-)
