Risk:

If you are flying on a bomber over Europe in WW2, your life expectancy would be quite short. Telling someone who has been shot at by Germans for 12 hours that at 60 that fag might kill you from lung cancer would seem ironic and somewhat insensitive. We were not there in the 30's except maybe as young ones (no pun on the Young Ones intended) and so we have no right to judge.

Of course now if my daughter took up smoking and I found out about it, a very real senseless beating would begin.

First would be the subtle approach:
1. Go to your room and don't come out till you are 21.
Then
2. I will unglue your hands when you promise not to smoke
After that
3. Make her wear a jumper which says "My Dad says he will blow your brains out if you sell me ciggies."
Finally:
4. Young lady - no more "My Chemical Romance" songs in this house till you stop. This is the ultimate threat.

Of course the final step is to take her up to the hospital and let her meet someone dying of lung cancer. Not a very pretty sight.

But just about everyone in my family for as far back as I can remember smoked at one stage. About 50% could give it up and the rest died from it. Some had a terrible death, Grandad's was enough to stop anyone smoking.

I can not stand the smell, even of a good pipe.

Texas of course has chaw and that is real bad. reminds me of the PD story on smoking.
