John - taking a world view, I don't think you are being selfish at all. You are doing something positive for humanity. A child should always be rescued, whatever country it is in and whatever race.

On the Tarboard question, what you tell your daughter, and when, is entirely a matter for you. All I can say is that if she were my daughter I would rather tell her about her origins myself than risk her finding out on a website one day and then possibly wondering why it had been kept from her. I am not sure that posting these highly personal matters on a website is altogether a good idea. I don't want to be alarmist, but do remember that Tarboard is open, read-only, to anyone on the net. We just don't know who is reading the posts and who may be copying them and where they are ending up. I am a firm believer in the maxim that if something can happen, it almost certainly will. But as I said, it will be your decision. Good luck anyway, and like you, I mean no offence.

(I'd be tempted, if I were you, to ask Ian to remove the post with Catriona's details in. However, if you think that I would be better off minding my own business, please say so - I won't be offended. It's just a suggestion.)
