My own reading progression was from Beano/Dandy(Desperate Dan) and
later Eagle (Dan Dare) comics to Enid Blyton and thence to AR.
Always felt the Famous Five stories were more contrived (not quite
sure that's the correct word) - more obviously a made-up story -
than AR and the S&A books which had a more "natural" feel about them!
