Happily breaking off from preparations for tomorrow's New Year's Day invasion - have already laid the table, made two jellies and prepared a seemingly infinite number of vegetables - to enter the debate. In 1982, Nat Hentoff wrote THE DAY THEY CAME TO ARREST THE BOOK, about an American high school where pupils, parents and teachers demand that HUCKLEBERRY FINN is removed from the library shelves on the grounds that it is racist, sexist and immoral. Debate rages, headed up by the inschool student press, and some sort of a resolution is eventually reached. It's well worth reading or rereading.
