Peter - interesting points as all ways, but I have to admit I had never noticed the 'n' word references in BS nor the other ones in PD. If I had been asked where the word was used in AR the only one that springs to mind is the description of the pearls in PD and nothing else.
Leaving aside the nature of the words we are talking about, I have serious concerns about the changing of an author's work who is not here to argue the case. However you justify it such an action is censorship, it may not be serious censorship but as Kant says (and I paraphrase) 'Never apply a rule that cannot be applied universally'
