I don't lack compassion Peter, but I preferred the word 'gay' in its earlier senses, and I regret that I can no longer read a book like Saville's 'The Gay Dolphin Adventure' with my eight year old daughter without having to explain that 'Gay' means 'Happy'. Try looking up 'Gay Dolphin' on Google as she did and you'll see what I mean.
I also fail to see what compassion has to do with the re-writing of works of fiction.
