Without diverging to far from AR - and this to some extent is a thought along the lines of the difference between liberal and non liberal as often seen by AR in the MI5 incidences. Texas is a right to work state. Which actually means if you strike they fire you except under very strange circumstances. So whilst the USA is notionally democratic to a large extent the states hold the power and are as democratic about this as say El Salvador, Syria, Iran, Korea and China. The lawyer in our place says it is because Texas is full of rednecks. Interesting how non librealism turns up in so many places.
