Little Black Sambo was written by Helen Bannerman, but despite what the Boston Globe says, it is manifestly and entirely Indian story. Sambo is a South Indian, possibly Tamil child. He is brave and enjoys life and defeats the tigers and is all in all an admirable hero of a story. Unfortunately his name has been usurpedin a racist manner.
