While arguments rage elsewhere on Tarboard about the quality and longevity of the JKR books, it's good to read in today's Independent that Pullman's Ruby in the Smoke series is being filmed by the BBC. Pullman's writing is intelligent and polished. The villains are dark and trecherous. His heroine Sally Lockhart is* brave and resourceful. Imagine crossing AR's childrens' books with Rhoad Dahl's and you will have a good idea of what to expect!
(* A question for Tarboard's Literary Guardians - should it be a series is or a series are? The only relevant article I can find on the Internet leaves me even more confused than I usually am.)
