Thanks, Robert. I happened to know those tidbits, but you're right, many Ransome readers might not -- unless they'd also read The Annotated Hobbit by Douglas A. Anderson and/or the new book by Wayne Hammond and Christina Scull, The Lord of the Rings Reader's Companion, both of which refer to the letter from Ransome.

I am currently trying to track down a few more tidbits, as you've seen. Besides which books the Tolkien children had enjoyed, I am fascinated to find out exactly which suggestions Ransome made. I've known the Tolkien side -- which suggestion(s) Tolkien accepted -- but not the Ransome side, as it were.
