The outward messages from Holly Howe to Malta were definitely letters. It's clearly stated in the book. That was the transit time Rob Marshall and I were speaking of.

And no, I don't believe the Swallows would have spent a few days dreaming before acting. Not Ted Walker's children. I think they would have arrived one day, seen the island the next, got their letters written that evening and posted them the next morning.
