There is a large area of Carboniferous Limestone south of Kendal, and a narrow band of Coniston Limestone running from Shap via Ambleside to the Old Man (Kanchenjunga) and petering out near Broughton. There isn't any in the immediate locale of Swallowdale, assuming the location to be close to the southern end of either Coniston Water or Windermere, but the odd boulder or slab could well have been deposited there as a glacial erratic. I don't think Homer can legitimately be accused of having nodded this time!
